PSI suspended, Crime Branch to investigate & Pvt. Security Forces under scanner

Dear Member,

The TV Journalist Association has taken up the attack on an India TV reporter and cameraperson on Saturday very seriously. The two people were assaulted at Infinity Mall, Andheri, by private security guards at the mall.

On Saturday, a delegation led by TVJA's General Secretary Prasad Kathe met Home Minister R R Patil and demanded strong action against the culprits. The delegation presented visuals of reporter Wasim Akhtar being beaten up as proof. The visuals present the true, unbiased story.

Mr Patil transferred the case from Oshiwara Police Station to the Mumbai Crime Branch. He phoned Mr Sanjay Barve, Temparary Jt. CP (Crime) and ordered him to look into the matter. He also instructed commissioner Hasan Gafoor to suspend PSI Jitendra Kadam, who failed to perform his duties when he was at the spot. Later, Mr Patil has asked his department to start a scrutiny of all the private security agencies in the state.

On Sunday, TVJA president Mr Ravindra Ambekar raised this issue strongly at the meeting of Committee for Prevention of Attacks on Journalists at Sindhudurg, Konkan. The chairman of this Committee, Mr Rajendra Shingane , has decided to call upon the victims and police officers concerned. The committee will also inquire into this matter. A sub-committee, comprising Mr Ambekar and Mr Yuvraj Mohite, has been formed to submit a status report to the Chief Minister Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh within the next two days. Mr Mohite is a member of the Committee for Prevention of Attacks on Journalists & executive editor of Daily Mahanagar.

These are just the prelimnary steps announced by the TVJA.

I assure you that we will do everything to take this issue to a satisfactory conclusion.

Hope to get your support in future also.

Thanking you,

Prasad Kathe,
Gen. Secretary,
TVJA
